My niece Cara got married last summer to a wonderful young man named Sean. She didn’t need a wedding quilt as her grandmother had made her a beautiful Cathedral Windows quilt last year. But since I have a passion for quilting and am always looking for a good reason to make another quilt, how could I pass up this opportunity? So, the bicycle quilt was born as a Christmas gift.
Sean is a bicycle enthusiast and rides Cyclocross events all over the world. Sean and Cara left their wedding ceremony to go up to the reception site on a bicycle built for two so the bicycle theme seemed perfect for their picnic quilt. I found a couple of novelty bicycle prints and paired them with with wheels and solids in Amy Ellis’ quilt pattern 1,2,3 in her book Modern Basics. The quilt was easy to assemble following Amy’s instructions. I used a piece of plaid on the back along with more scraps from the quilt top. Here is a photo of the quilt back of the quilt along with the personalized label. The dark plaid will work well as a picnic quilt!
I have made several quilts from Amy’s book, Modern Basics – here are some photos of the others. The first one is Basic Puzzle and the second one is Basic Ease.
And here’s a last shot of 1,2,3 the Bicycle Quilt and a closeup! The quilting was done by Heidi at Rocky Mountain Quilting.
