One of the other hats I wear, besides mom, grandma(mana), full time worker, passionate quilter and sewist is President of Coastal Quilters Guild of Santa Barbara and Goleta. Our guild brings in fabulous speakers and teachers 9 months of each year. They speak at our general meeting which often includes amazing trunk shows and then offer workshops to our members. In October we brought in Terrie Sandelin to speak about her book Miniatures in Minutes. I am a firm believer in taking every workshop and class available! Sometimes they are not in a style or technique that I have alot (or any) interest in, but I love to learn new things! And the hints and tips they offer can often help in the other projects I am working on. So miniatures was not on the top of my bucket list but I signed up for the workshop anyway! When Terrie did her trunk show at the guild meeting, I was excited to try her technique and she attracted several more students to her workshop with her display of her amazing little quilts. Here are some photos of the class in progress!
Terrie started the workshop giving us a closeup view of many miniatures in a wide variety of designs that are both in her book and on her website. She then discussed the technique before turning us loose to choose a design and our fabric selections. Terrie provided the paper piecing patterns for us printed on velum which is what she recommends.
