This is my largest project to date! This is a king size quilt made for my daughter and her husband. I started collecting Fandango by Kate Spain as soon as I saw it. I love this fabric! My intention was to make a queen size quilt for MY bed. However, as my stash grew, my daugher went “shopping” when they were visiting last summer and picked out the Fandango prints she found in my stash. And since I LOVE my daughter, I pulled out my project box which had MORE yardage plus a layer cake tucked away and that sealed the deal.
I had a pattern in mind called Arcadia by Mountainpeek Creations that I thought would be perfect for this collection using Quilter’s Linen as the sashing. When the quilt grew to king size, I had to buy an extra layer cake in order to make enough blocks. The corals, teals and browns are perfect in their bedroom as she wanted a tropical color scheme. Heidi from Rocky Mountain Quilting did a great job on the long arm quilting. Here are some additional photos.
Making a king size quilt is a challenge. The amount of fabric is enormous and the weight is significant. When it was time to bind the quilt, I had to add tables and TV trays around my sewing table so the quilt wouldn’t drag against my needle. I should have taken a photo of that! But despite the challenge, the result was perfect! The quilt looks great in their room and since it is a bit oversized (like a standard king wasn’t big enough) they are thrilled with their quilty gift!

Wow, Irelle, you have outdone yourself! As always, your work is amazing. I love the fabrics, they’re really gorgeous.
Wow! Your daughter is one lucky girl that quilt is amazing. I’m sure they’re going to love it!
Congratulations, Irelle, that is a significant accomplishment! I like the way the large squares double-up and move in both diagonal directions at once.
You are one good mama! That quilt is stunning – thank you for including the name of the pattern. It’s what caught my eye in the first place. Well done – it’s just gorgeous!
