I made quilts for several family members for Christmas gifts. I couldn’t post about them as I completed them in December as some of my family follows my blog and I didn’t want to give away the surprise. First up is the Jazz Quilt for my brother, David. He is a musician and plays the trombone in a local jazz band so the theme of this quilt was perfect for him.
I used the pattern “Sidelines” by Maple Island Quilts because it does a great job highlighting the focus fabric and the instructions are great. I used a mixture of musical note fabrics in both black & white and bright colors on a black background. They both went well with the jazz musician focal fabric.
I almost always do a pieced back for my quilts to use up the extra fabric and reduce my potential scrap stash. I added a few coordinating fabrics to my stash and did a personalized label using the embroidery stitches on my Janome 6600. He loved the quilt and called me the other night just to tell me he was using it as he was watching TV. It’s always nice to know your gifts are appreciated.

Thanks for checking in.

What an interesting pattern – a sense of interlocking borders. Great quilt.
